A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, with visitation at 10 AM and a service at 11 AM, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Ruth. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice in his memory.

Family of the Deceased

Harold and Joann (Romzek) Messing were married on October 14, 1961, and had five children: Karen Currie, Deb (Kirt) Peruski, Steve (Laurie) Messing, Randy (Shelly) Messing, and Crystal (Nate) Czupinski. In addition to his wife and children, Harold is survived by 13 grandchildren: Jason (Brittany) Currie, Megan Currie, Jacob Currie, Ivan (Heather) Peruski, Andrew (Cailin) Peruski, Taylor (Matt) Messing, Zach (Madison) Messing, Sawyer (Hayley) Messing, Shelby (Dallas) Messing, Mitchell (Hannah) Messing, Anna (Alex) Jones, Olivia Czupinski, and Emma Czupinski, as well as nine great grandchildren: Everett Currie, Asher and Baylor Peruski, Lainey, Davis, and Calvin Peruski, Atlas Messing, Matilda Finan, and Lyla Messing. He is also survived by siblings Carl (Rose) Messing, Dan (Matilda) Messing, Harvey (Elaine) Messing, Mary Ann Leppek, and in-laws Diane Messing, Tom (Marlene) Romzek, Sally Drossos, and Jim (Lori) Romzek. He was proceeded in death by siblings Millie Vogel, George Messing, Sam Messing, and in-laws Mike Leppek, Dan Vogel, Dale Romzek, and Dave Drossos.

Biography

Harold J Messing, 85, lifelong resident of Ruth, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2026. He was born on September 30, 1940, to Catherine (Clor) and Arthur Messing. Harold was a member of Holy Apostles Parish. He was employed for 47 years at Ruth Farmer’s Elevator and continued selling farm equipment into his 80s, making friends as he made sales across the Thumb region. Harold was a competitive card player who enjoyed time with family and friends. He was an excellent businessman, followed many sports, enjoyed casino visits, and going dancing with Joann. Harold was the “go–to“ guy when family and friends needed help. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
