Funeral Information

Lila’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Ransford Funeral Home- Caro with Pastor Steven Henry officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Lila will be laid to rest Inidanfeilds Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Fostoria Baptist Church. The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Funeral Home - Caro. Family of the Deceased

Lila is survived by her children, Dale (Betty) Judd of Houghton Lake, Jerry (Laurene) Judd of Fostoria, Phillip Judd of Toledo, Ohio, and Mark (Brenda) Judd of Prescott; brother, Rex Graybill; sister, Diane Sands; twelve dear grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lila was preceded in death by her husbands, Bernard Judd and Henry Hewitt; daughter, Marlene Simmonds; son, Larry Judd; grandson, Larry Judd Jr.; and brothers and sisters, Douglas Scott, John “Jack” Scott, Devere Scott, Patrick Graybill, Lorraine Munger, Janet Armstrong, Linda Gutierrez, and Debra Gutierrez. The promise of “Ma’s” eternal life can be found in Job 23:10: “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Biography

Lila Louise Hewitt (Scott) of Caro, age 95, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while at Fisher’s Senior Center. She was born on January 5, 1931, in Rose City, the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Effie (Brindley) Scott. She grew up in West Branch and moved to Oxford as a young adult, where she married Bernard Judd. Together, they had six children. Lila was a loving mother and did everything she could to give her children a good life while they were growing up. The family eventually moved to Fostoria. Lila later married Henry Hewitt, and they made their home in Elkton. Her family holds many fond memories of time spent at the farmhouse there. Lila and Henry later moved to Caro, where she lived for the last thirty-two years. Although life circumstances only allowed Lila to attend school through middle school, she was “smart as a whip” and had a memory to be admired. She could recite the Declaration of Independence and name all of the United States presidents, along with the terms in which they served. She enjoyed reading the Bible and a variety of books to keep her mind sharp. She loved the song “The Old Rugged Cross,” and watching good ol’ black-and-white shows like Gunsmoke was one of her favorite ways to pass the time. Lila will always be remembered for the endless boxes of treats she made for her children and their families at Christmastime. Her family will continue to carry on her labor of love and talent for baking for generations to come. Throughout the years and for every occasion, everyone looked forward to her famous goodies, including sugar cookies, chocolate torte, cheesecake, and toffee, among many others. For many years, she also canned vegetables and fruits. Lila loved to bake and cook for others, and anyone who has one of her recipes in their collection is truly blessed. Lilacs were her favorite flower. Lila leaves a legacy of strength and love and was a wonderful example of what it meant to have a heart for Jesus and a strong work ethic. She enjoyed helping others and giving whenever she could. Her family recently held a grand celebration for her 95th birthday, attended by many family members and friends. They are thankful for the opportunity to turn the tables and spoil her with good food and a special time together. Lila was a member of Fostoria Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge in Caro.
