The proposed recall of three Elmwood Township officials can now move forward.
The appeal period for the Elmwood Township officials subject to the recall petition, Pam Brinkman, Rochelle Brown and Evan Laurie, lapsed on Dec. 14.
Because there was no appeal case filed in Tuscola's Circuit Court, the recall sponsors can begin to collect signatures of registered voters in the township, according to Tuscola County Clerk Jodi Fetting.
The Recall sponsors need to collect a minimum of 120 valid signatures by the end of January 2026 in order to have the matter placed on the May 2026 ballot.
The proposed recall language on Brinkman's, Brown's, and Laurie's each say the same.
Each petition said that on January 15, 2025, during a regular meeting of the Elmwood Township Board, Brinkman, Brown, and Laurie: voted in favor of a motion to immediately terminate Elmwood Township’s professional relationship with the law firm Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith PC and to approve the hiring of the law firm of Bauckham, Thall, Seeber, Kaufamn, & Koches PC to provide services to Elmwood Township.
