Proposed Recall Petitions Filed on Two Mayville Council Members

Dissatisfaction with government representatives continues in Tuscola County.
"This morning recall petition wording was filed in the Tuscola County Clerk's Office for Mayville Village Officeholders," said Tuscola County Clerk Jodi Fetting.
Proposed call petitions were filed on Kristen Valentine, who is Mayville Village President, and Boyd-Beau Shaver, who is a village trustee.
The Tuscola County Election Commission will conduct a clarity/factual hearing at 10 a.m., on Jan. 6, 2026.
The reason given for a proposed recall of Valentine is she voted no to a motion to open the village office to village residents from Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The reason given for the proposed recall of Shaver is he made a motion to table the opening of the Mayville Village Hall indefinitely.
Fetting, Probate Judge Nancy Thane, and Treasurer Ashley Bennett are the county's election commission.
The commission is charged with determining if the language presented on a petition is clear and of a factual basis.
The hearing will be conducted in the probate-family courtroom in the courthouse at 4440 North State St., Caro.
Mayville has had a long and tumultuous history of attempted recalls, recalls, and legal filing over who can and cannot run for office.
