The former maintenance director at Sandusky Community Schools Duane Paehlig, age 60, will be back in court later this month on charges of embezzlement, malicious destruction of property, and forgery.
His hearing on those charged will be conducted by Zoom on Oct. 22.
Paehlig is facing charges of: embezzlement by agent or trustee of $20,000 or more but less than $50,000; malicious destruction of a building $1,000-20,000; and forgery.
Huron County Prosecutor Tim Rutkowski and Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson are handling the case.
Both the Sanilac County Prosecutor Mark Davidson and Circuit Court Judge Tim Wrathall recused themselves to avoid any possible conflict of interest.
The Michigan State Police and the Sandusky Police Department executed search warrants last fall on his residence.
During the searches, law enforcement officers discovered several items of property that belong to the school district that were allegedly taken between May 2020 through October 2025.
Regarding the forgery charge, he allegedly forged invoices totaling $1,960.
Also, Paehlig allegedly damaged a school building.
