The United States Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported an invasive species has been found in Genesee County.

The agency confirmed the Box Tree Moth (Cydalima perspectalis) has been detected in Genesee County.

The moth is not a threat to Michigan's natural resources, but it can lead to significant defoliation and death of ornamental boxwood.

In 2023, a Box Tree Moth quarantine was issued for 13 counties.
