James Allen Stemen appeared in Huron County District Court today after his case "appeared to have slipped through the cracks" as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alexander Pahany mentioned in the initial moments of the hearing.
After that statement, Mr. Pahany had expressed that the prosecution initiated a plea offer only shortly before the case went on record. That offer entailed Mr. Stemen pleading guilty or no contest to a charge of attempting to interfere with electronic communications and a charge of domestic violence second offense, in exchange the felony charge in the case would be dismissed.
Mr. Lockard, Stemen's attorney, noted that due to the offer being proposed only moments before, he would like some time to review the offer with his client. The Prosecution had affirmed the offer would be provided to both the court and defense in writing. With that in mind, Judge Ferris agreed to the court rescheduling the hearing to Thursday April 16th at 10A.M.
The preliminary exam was adjourned at this time, but if it is still needed it will be rescheduled during the hearing on the 16th.
