There were a couple of reasons pointed out why Speaker Township's monthly bills were higher than usual.
They were higher because the $11,018 bill for bringing gravel roads to keep dust down was paid, and there was a payment of $6,625 that was made for gravel to patch various roads in the township.
The overall total bills to be paid for the month were $24,992.
In other money matters, it was reported there was no information on a possible grant to buy nine batteries for the rescue truck that needs to be replaced, but approval was given to purchase some batteries for the rescue truck at a cost not to exceed $700.
During the meeting. it was noted that tax bills were mailed on July 1, and that taxes can now be paid online at Choice One or mailed to the township hall at 7630 Brockway Road (M-19), Melvin, MI 48454, or there is also a drop box in the back of the township hall where payments can be left.
