Cities, villages, and townships facing financial hardship can now apply for state grants aimed at improving local fiscal stability. The Michigan Department of Treasury is accepting applications for its Financially Distressed Cities, Villages, and Townships (FDCVT) program through January 30th, 2026.
Up to $2 million is available per project, with a total of $2.5 million allocated for the fiscal year. The grants are designed to support special projects that help free up local funds for essential services or move communities toward long-term financial recovery.
Priority will be given to municipalities with recent financial emergencies, deficit elimination plans, or other indicators of "probable financial distress." School districts are not eligible.
